RSL Signs Johnny Russell

Today Real Salt Lake signed free agent Johnny Russell a day prior to the primary transfer window closing. We heard rumblings of this signing a few days ago indicating this was a relatively last minute deal. Russell has also been available to be signed since last season ended. We last played against Johnny Russell when he played for Sporting Kansas City. He was a stalwart with the club playing 232 games and scoring 67 goals over 6 years. He has also made 372 appearances with 93 goals in various clubs in England, Ireland, and Scotland. He also has 14 appearances and 1 goal with Scotland most recently in 2019.

Johnny Russell will not occupy an international roster slot as he has acquired permanent residence through some mechanism and last year his salary was $500,000, RSL will have been able to negotiate that to be lower.
