RSL Trades for International Roster Slot

It was announced on Feb 15th that Real Salt Lake has traded 225000$ in 2025 GAM and 50000$ in 2026 GAM to the Colorado Rapids. This is Real Salt Lake's 10th International Roster Slot. The MLS Roster Compliance date is on Friday February 21st. We spent 185000$ in 2025 GAM for an International Roster Slot a month ago. As far as I am aware we did not need this roster slot to be roster compliant. This move is a bit puzzling to me. Why would we pay so much right before the deadline for a spot we don't need? I am under the impression we will be signing an international player in 2025 but I have heard no rumors or rumblings of a specific player profile. It remains to be seen if this will be a worthwhile trade. The good news is if we don't use it we can sell it back to someone else whenever we want. These slots are valuable assets.
